Twenty participants in Pepcoโ€™s 2021 Utility Training Program at the D.C. Infrastructure Academy have been honored for their 14 weeks of hard work by both the city government and the utility conglomerate.

Pepco and the D.C. recently held an in-person celebration for the academyโ€™s second graduating class, including their families and friends. The class was the first to return to in-person learning and continuous training services since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic last year, Pepco and the city government said in a joint statement.

โ€œThis in-person graduation ceremony marks another significant milestone for the Pepco Utility Training School โ€” especially during these unprecedented times,โ€ said Tyler Anthony, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Pepco Holdings. โ€œThis graduation is a celebration of a significant amount of hard work, and we view the achievements of each participant as an integral part of the next generation of the Districtโ€™s critical infrastructure workforce.โ€

Overall, Pepcoโ€™s program aims to prepare D.C. residents for careers in the energy industry, highlighting various jobs including line mechanics, cable splicer mechanics, helper transformer testers and meter technicians.

This yearโ€™s graduating class, which had one female student and consisted of 93% Wards 7 and 8 residents, began the program in June 2021. Of the graduates who successfully completed their studies, 100% are on track to receive offers from Pepco, Pepco contractors or other companies committed to employment programs, the utility company said.

โ€œTodayโ€™s graduates took a chance to pursue training and education in the midst of the pandemic,โ€ said DOES Director Unique Morris-Hughes. โ€œWe are proud of their accomplishments and the work they will do.โ€
