Hundreds of D.C. firefighters and paramedics still have not been disciplined for failing to meet the cityโ€™s coronavirus vaccination requirement, according to a recent report.

Of the 2,048 uniformed and civilian D.C. Fire and EMS employees, 294 are unvaccinated and 280 have pending exemption claims for medical or religious reasons, WRC-TV (Channel 4) first reported Thursday.

City Administrator Kevin Donahue said those with pending exemption requests are fine for now, adding that itโ€™s a small number of employees without any vaccine information on file who would first be targeted for disciplinary action.

โ€œThere are some firefighters who we donโ€™t have any vaccine record for,โ€ Donahue said, WRC reported. โ€œItโ€™s about 30, and they do not have a vaccine exemption request pending. Those are individuals who would be the first that we would take adverse action on.โ€

Donahue said thereโ€™s no timeline for when decisions on exemption requests will be made.

All D.C. government employees are required to report their vaccination status to management.
