Dr. Frances Cress Welsing is in intensive care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Northwest.

The famed, 80-year-old afrocentrist is said to be on a ventilator as her sister Loren Cress Love and others have flown in to be by her side.

A hospital declined to provide details about what landed Welsing in the hospital, but said she checked in on Thursday, Dec. 31.

Born in Chicago on March 18, 1935, Welsing, a psychiatrist, is noted for her โ€œCress Theory of Color Confrontation,โ€ which explores the practice of White supremacy.

In 1991, she authored the book, โ€œThe Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors, where she states that a system is practiced by the global white minority, on both conscious and unconscious levels, to ensure their genetic survival by any means necessary.

Welsing said this system attacks people of color, particularly people of African descent, in the nine major areas of peopleโ€™s activity: economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, religion, sex and war.

She said she believes that it is imperative that people of color, especially people of African descent, understand how the system of white supremacy works in order to dismantle it and bring true justice to planet Earth.

Welsing appeared in the 2005 documentary, โ€œ500 Years Later,โ€ and the 2011 film, โ€œHidden Colors: The Untold History of People of Aboriginal, Moor, and African Descent.โ€
