Rep. Maxine Waters blasted President Donald Trump on MSNBC Friday morning, calling him โmost deplorable person Iโve met in my life.โ
During an appearance on the networkโs โMorning Joeโ program, the outspoken Waters, one of the first Trump critics to broach the topic of impeachment, she said sheโs learned thereโs a lot of smoke โ even fire โ surrounding the commander in chief.
โEverything that I have learned about this president has started with the campaign itself,โ Waters, 79, said. โI think heโs the most deplorable person Iโve met in my life, and if you take a look at his allies and some of his Cabinet, all these people around him with connections to the Ukraine and to Russia โ everyone should have known that. โฆ Our intelligence committees have not moved fast enough, but I have my hopes on [special counsel Robert] Mueller as most people do. I think heโs going to connect the dots.โ
Asked if Trump will be able to stabilize the country, Waters โ the most senior of 12 black women currently serving in Congress โ expressed doubt.
โWeโve been talking about this president becoming presidential and transitioning long enough,โ the California Democrat said. โItโs not going to happen. He is a fraud man with no real values and no real appreciation or understanding of government or public policy. I have no hopes that anybody is going to be able to contain him or that heโs going to change.โ
As for the possibility of the Republican president being impeached by a GOP-majority Congress, Waters said when Mueller โconnects the dots and is able to show collusion,โ the patriotism of most Americans wonโt allow them to stand with Trump.
โNot if itโs proven that they colluded, that they undermined our democracy, interfered with our election,โ Waters said. โ[Americans] be able to see that this president is dangerous. And I do believe that patriotism will win in the final analysis.โ
