Graduation season for the PGCPS system began May 1 with โCollege Signing Day,โ which celebrates studentsโ commitment to higher education.
College Signing Day inspires more youth to pursue a two- and four-year institution and promotes a college-going culture throughout the school system.
When the event began this week in Prince Georgeโs County, high school seniors were encouraged to share their college decisions on social media (#PGCPSCollegeSigningDay and #BetterMakeRoom).
PGCPS staff members were encouraged to wear attire or paraphernalia representing their alma mater or favorite college team.
A College Signing Day will be held at 8:30 a.m., Friday, May 4 at Charles H. Flowers High School in Springdale.
Last Day of School for Students
Prince Georgeโs County Board of Education has voted to extend the school year by three days to make up instructional time lost to inclement weather.
Maryland elected officials recently passed emergency legislation that enables school districts to add up to five days beyond the state-mandated last day for students (June 15) to make up for days lost due to inclement weather.
The last day of school for students will now be Wednesday, June 20. There will be a two-hour early dismissal on June 19 and June 20.
