Stephen Marley, the second child of Bob and Rita Marley, has often been described as one of the most innovative and musically prolific of the Marley progeny. He comes to the Howard Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 17, continuing his multi-city all-acoustic tour, โ€œAn Evening with Stephen Marley,โ€ along with his daughter Mystic Marley, who released her first single, โ€œBeatdownโ€ last summer.

โ€œEvery child is unique,โ€ he said. โ€œMystic is very talented, charismatic and her personality is strong and that comes across in her songs. The more she grows, the better she gets, so I just let her grow who she is inside of her.โ€

The tour comes in conjunction with the release of his latest acoustic recording, โ€œOne Take,โ€ completed in a session in Marleyโ€™s Miami home.

โ€œI love breaking the music down to inception, when it was being inspired,โ€ Marley adds. โ€œAnd where it started from has some magic that the full recordings donโ€™t have at times, so this format is special. I like sharing it.โ€

The legendary Bob Marley also favored the acoustic format, having recorded a session of well-known songs in acoustic renderings featured on the 1992 box set, โ€œSongs of Freedom.โ€ As for Stephenโ€™s fans, theyโ€™re probably familiar with his acoustic recording โ€œMind Controlโ€ (2008) but heโ€™s done very little in that format since then.

โ€œYou have to experience the acoustic vibe,โ€ he said. โ€œItโ€™s not very often that we do it, so itโ€™s rare. The vibrations are high when the songs are broken down and the spirits in the room are elevated.โ€

As for the new CD, he says, โ€œThis is one is more like a jam, itโ€™s one take, no overdubs or correcting anything. Just an organic acoustic jam session. I love this vibe.โ€
