The top high school football players in Prince George’s County dominated the prep stars from the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC), 35-6, during the 11th annual Chick-fil-A Challenge at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School in Upper Marlboro this month.
The Dec. 8 game pitted top athletes from Prince George’s against their counterparts from Charles and St. Mary’s counties, all of whom are selected for the game by their respective coaches.
“This is chance for the kids to come out and showcase themselves,” said Ed Shields, head coach at Suitland High and president of the Prince George’s County Coaches Association.
The game came at critical time for college recruiters locally and nationally who need valuable film to evaluate and recruit talent for next season and beyond.
“They played very well today and this gives colleges another chance to look at them,” Shields said. “It is with another county that is doing the same things with these kids, and —win or lose — you play hard as you can. And all of the kids enjoyed the game.”
