A group of African-American civil rights activists have come to the defense of Colorado Christian baker Jack Phillips, who refused to make a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Three conservative African-American public policy groups โ€” the Frederick Douglass Foundation, Star Parkerโ€™s Center of Urban Renewal and Education and pro-life activist Ryan Bombergerโ€™s Radiance Foundation โ€” have launched a website, WeGotYourBackJack.com, in support of Phillipsโ€™ First Amendment right.

Phillips of Masterpiece Cake Shop, who cites his religious freedom, will argue his case in December before the Supreme Court.

The website was announced Monday at a press conference outside the U.S. Supreme Court building in D.C., where the activists who spoke in defense of Phillips included Dean Nelson, chair and co-founder of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, and the Rev. William Avon Keen, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Virginia.

โ€œJack is somebody to be admired and someone who is standing for what he believes in,โ€ Nelson, who also heads African-American affairs at the social conservative advocacy group Family Research Council, said in a video featured on the website.
