Donnie Simpson, the iconic D.C. radio personality, is set to launch his own two-hour syndicated program in several big-city markets this weekend.
“The Donnie Simpson Weekend Show” will debut Saturday on D.C.’s WMMJ and eight other Reach Media affiliate stations — Atlanta’s WAMJ-HD2, Baltimore’s WWIN, Cincinnati’s WOSL, Cleveland’s WZAK, Columbus, Ohio’s WXMG, Philadelphia’s WPPZ, Raleigh, North Carolina’s WFXC, and Richmond, Virginia’s WKJS.
Simpson, who was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame last year, will host along with Tony Perkins, Reach Media said in a press release. Each show will feature a specific music theme such as “Best Bands” or “Blue Eyed Soul Singers,” along with segments such as “Huggy Lowdown’s Celebrity Snitch.”
“People around the country got to watch me on ‘Video Soul’ for many years but didn’t get to check me out on my first love, radio,” Simpson said in the release. “Only Detroit and D.C. would suffer that experience. So I’m really excited for the rest of the country to finally hear what I do on the radio.”
