Ashlee Jenae, a Miami-based lifestyle influencer known for promoting a โ€œsoft lifeโ€ aesthetic, was found dead during a trip to Tanzania, as family members and friends push back against claims that she died by suicide.

Jenae, 31, had traveled to the East African nation to celebrate her birthday and a recent engagement to Joe McCann. Social media posts shared in the days before her death show her smiling, traveling, and documenting what she described as a milestone moment in her life.

โ€œIf this is a dream, no one wake me up,โ€ Jenae wrote on Instagram in a post about the trip.

According to statements attributed to Tanzanian authorities and shared publicly by McCann, Jenae died by hanging, a claim that has been presented as the official account of her death.

Family members and close friends reportedly have rejected that explanation, pointing to her recent engagement, travel plans, and what they describe as her state of mind before the trip. One friend wrote online that Jenae was โ€œradiant with joyโ€ in the days leading up to her death, calling the circumstances inconsistent with suicide.

Questions have also surfaced about the timeline surrounding her death. Posts circulating on social media claim there was a delay of as much as two days before authorities or relatives were notified, though those claims have not been confirmed by officials.

Details about where Jenae was found remain unclear. Some accounts indicate she was discovered at or near the property where she was staying, while others suggest she may have been found outside. Authorities have not publicly clarified those details.

The case is being handled by Tanzanian officials, and as of April 12, no autopsy or toxicology findings have been released publicly. There has also been no confirmed statement from authorities regarding whether anyone has been detained or questioned in connection with her death.

Jenae built a following online by documenting travel, lifestyle choices, and what she described as a shift toward ease and financial independence. Her accounts have since been flooded with tributes, along with demands from supporters calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

โ€œThis makes zero sense,โ€ one friend wrote in a widely shared message, echoing growing calls for answers.
