Ashlee Jenae, a Miami-based lifestyle influencer known for promoting a “soft life” aesthetic, was found dead during a trip to Tanzania, as family members and friends push back against claims that she died by suicide.
Jenae, 31, had traveled to the East African nation to celebrate her birthday and a recent engagement to Joe McCann. Social media posts shared in the days before her death show her smiling, traveling, and documenting what she described as a milestone moment in her life.
“If this is a dream, no one wake me up,” Jenae wrote on Instagram in a post about the trip.
According to statements attributed to Tanzanian authorities and shared publicly by McCann, Jenae died by hanging, a claim that has been presented as the official account of her death.
Family members and close friends reportedly have rejected that explanation, pointing to her recent engagement, travel plans, and what they describe as her state of mind before the trip. One friend wrote online that Jenae was “radiant with joy” in the days leading up to her death, calling the circumstances inconsistent with suicide.
Questions have also surfaced about the timeline surrounding her death. Posts circulating on social media claim there was a delay of as much as two days before authorities or relatives were notified, though those claims have not been confirmed by officials.
