The District will host Sun Day on Sept. 21, a citywide event aimed at educating residents about solar energy options and clean power benefits.
The Sunday afternoon celebration, running from 1 to 5 p.m., will take place at solar-powered homes, buildings and community hubs throughout Washington. The event targets both homeowners and renters who want to learn more about controlling their energy costs, whether they’re just curious about solar power or ready to make the switch.
Participants can tour solar installations to see panels, batteries and electric vehicle chargers in operation. Residents who have already adopted solar technology will share their experiences, while vetted installers will be available to provide information and help attendees avoid potential scams.
The event will also cover financial incentives including rebates, tax credits, the city’s Solar for All program, community solar options and Solar Renewable Energy Certificates.

More than a dozen organizations are partnering to host Sun Day, including Third Act DC, ElectrifyDC, Sierra Club, CCAN, Interfaith Power & Light, Washington Interfaith Network, DCSEU, Young Gifted and Green, the D.C. Department of Energy and Environment, Sycamore & Oak and Solar Solution.
A related Solar Friday EV Rally will take place at the U.S. Capitol on Sept. 19 from noon to 2 p.m.
Organizers say the events are designed to help residents connect with neighbors while exploring the economic, health and social benefits of clean energy.
