On Tuesday, June 28, Kirsten West Savali, associate editor for The Root online newspaper, received the 2016 Vernon Jarrett Medal for Journalistic Excellence at the National Press Club in Northwest at 1:00 pm. The Medal is given for exemplary reporting on Black life in America, and is given annually by Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism and Communication, and is funded by the Open Society Foundations.
