The NFL has made significant progress in diversifying its head coaching ranks, with nine head coaches of color, including six Black coaches, thanks in large part to the Rooney Rule, and the league has expanded the Rooney Rule to require teams to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coach and general manager jobs.
