Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston’s Third Ward, founded in 1962 by Rev. Dr. William Alexander Lawson and 13 companions, has remained committed to social justice and has been a beacon of hope for the community, as evidenced by Rev. Angela Ravin-Anderson’s testimony against the Texas legislature’s attempt to silence the voices of Black and Brown communities through gerrymandering.
