The next trend in airline passenger fees may be subscription rates to let fliers pay one fee to get roomier seats and free checked bags for an entire year.
United Airlines launched the subscription plan this week, with annual rates from $349 for free checked bags and $499 to sit in Economy Plus seats. The charge is in addition to the price of an airline ticket.
The Chicago-based airline said it is the only U.S. carrier to offer such a subscription program.
