DCPS and WTU in contract negotiations over student safety and lack of athletic trainers

School safety is a top concern for the Washington Teachers’ Union and D.C. Public Schools, particularly for the 14 overextended athletic trainers who are responsible for a student-athlete population that has tripled in the past 32 years. Despite efforts to negotiate an expansion of the athletic trainer workforce, DCPS has cited D.C. Code ยง 1โ617.08 in their refusal to negotiate the matter.
