A 10th child younger than 10 has died from COVID-19 in Virginia, the state health department said.
The coronavirus-related death, announced Thursday, is the second among children in the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts, according to the health department.
“Our hearts are heavy as we share this tragic and devastating news,” said Dr. Melissa Viray, deputy director of the Richmond-Henrico district. “We send our condolences to the family and are thinking of them in this incredibly difficult time.”
The health district advised everyone older than 12 to get vaccinated against the virus, particularly if they spend time with those younger than 12, for whom no vaccine yet has been approved for use.
