Forty-nine of 50 District residents who died from the coronavirus since June were Black, according to an analysis of city health department data.

Roughly 60% of the deaths were east of the Anacostia River in Wards 7 and 8, DCist reported, citing the analysis by dccovid.com.

Of the city’s 1,184 virus-related during the pandemic, 911 of them were of Black residents, or 77%, DCist reported.

Of the 50 deaths since June, 42 were of people who were unvaccinated. Since January, when vaccines came to the city en masse, July 12 fully vaccinated residents have died of the coronavirus, compared to 214 people who were not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated, DCist reported.

As of Thursday, roughly 61% of the city’s total population has been fully vaccinated, according to usafacts.org.
