The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, which offers free tax filing help to anyone, especially those 50 and older who can’t afford a tax preparation service, seeks volunteers for the upcoming tax season.

Tax-Aide volunteers who complete tax preparation training and IRS certification, receive training and support in a welcoming environment and every level of experience is welcome.

The program is offered at a dozen sites in D.C., including senior centers, libraries and other convenient locations, where last year nearly 70 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 3,545 people file their federal and state tax returns. Taxpayers do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use the program.

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has grown from its inaugural team of just four volunteers in 1968 to nearly 35,000 volunteers who serve 2.5 million taxpayers annually at some 5,000 sites nationwide.

Taxpayers who used AARP Foundation Tax-Aide this year received $1.37 billion in income tax refunds and more than $222 million in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs).
