A ribbon cutting was held Friday, November 4 to celebrate the official opening of Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School’s new location and larger Ward 5 campus. Local officials, along with the school’s community of partners, staff, donors and volunteers, marked the occasion with a tree planting of 30 trees. In addition to its facility in Ward 8, Academy of Hope serves more than 400 low-literacy adults seeking to advance their skills and career opportunities. More than 21 percent of the District’s working-age adults lack a high school diploma. One-in-five adults cannot read a newspaper or complete a job application, making it near impossible to find careers and earn a living wage. The new facility, located at 2315 18th Place, NE, will also offer courses at night. /Photo courtesy Academy of Hope
