Djibril Diallo, president and CEO of the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network, will represent the African diaspora March 25-26 in Mannheim, Germany for an international meeting themed, “Accelerating the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Cities – Strengthening the Role of the Private Sector.”
As a development expert, Diallo will lead a conversation about concrete proposals to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals in cities.
“The SDGs can provide the private sector with growth opportunities in four key economic sectors, including cities,” Diallo said. “They face unprecedented demographic, environmental, economic, social and spatial challenges. Accelerating the achievement of the SDGs requires connection at the local, regional and global levels with the private sector, the financial sector and industry.”
According to United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), “Global Strategic Dialogue” aims to develop concrete solutions linking global capital to the growing need for quality investment in cities and urban areas. The program is working towards a better urban future.
Achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will require investments of $5 trillion to 7 trillion per year over the next decade and half of humanity — 3.5 billion people — live today in cities. This figure is expected to reach 5 billion by 2030.
The recommendations of the dialogue will be presented to the United Nations Habitat Assembly in Nairobi in May 2019. They will also serve as guidelines on the engagement and role of the private sector in the perspective of the Tenth World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi in February 2020.
