American University has created a program providing students with an opportunity to get their foot in the congressional door.

The university’s Washington Semester Program allows students to earn 12-17 AU credits for one semester, that are transferable, along with the chance to intern at a diverse range of organizations, government agencies and other businesses.

The program allows students to gain both experience and knowledge in fields involving political science and government and law. The academic seminars offered include American politics, foreign policy, and international law and organizations. Participants are also allotted a stipend of up to $10,000.

Organizations involved in this program include BBC News, both the Democratic and Republican national committees and the World Bank.

Students can apply through the American University website and can receive further information from representatives upon application.
