AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia has earned a Commendable Health Plan Accreditation status from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Through ongoing evaluation and continuous quality improvement, AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia improved its accreditation status based on a review of the health plan’s most recent Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set and Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems scores.

“We always strive for performance excellence in every facet of our work, even as we confront the deeply challenging social risk factors which pose barriers to the health and well-being of our members,” said Karen Dale, market president for AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia. “Raising our NCQA accreditation status reflects our strong commitment to our members and our mission to build resilient and healthier communities.”

NCQA, a private nonprofit organization, is dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations, and recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance.

NCQA accreditation not only involves a rigorous review of a health plan’s consumer protection and quality improvement systems, but also requires health plans to submit audited data on key clinical and service measures (e.g., mammography screening rates; smoking cessation; consumer satisfaction) in order to achieve the highest levels of accreditation.
