“The Phyllis Hyman Experience,” directed by Ella Davis, is coming to the Anacostia Playhouse in southeast D.C. Aug. 23-25 for three performances.
Presented by LA Young Entertainment and the All About the Drama Theatre Group, the musical depicts the life and career of the famed soul singer, who died by suicide 1995 at the age of 45, from 1977 to her death.
Hyman is played by LA Young, an international recording artist, whose hit song “No One Can Love You More.” continues to top the UK FM soul/jazz charts.
Director Ella Davis, co-founder and AATD executive, has directed, produced and stage managed a host of community projects written by local community playwrights.
Showtime is 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, ad 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Adult admission is $35 and VIP tickets are $45. Tickets can be purchased at www.anacostiaplayhouse.org.
