Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Monday that she has tested positive for the coronavirus.
“COVID-19 has literally hit home. I have had NO symptoms and have tested positive,” Bottoms tweeted.
Bottoms, 50, told MSNBC she was prompted to get tested after noticing her husband had slept the whole weekend. Both she and her husband tested positive, she said.
The mayor’s national profile has grown in recent weeks amid the Black Lives Matter movement, particularly after the death of Rayshard Brooks, a Black man fatally shot by police in her city last month.
She has been floated as a possible running mate for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
