The Balm In Gilead will host its second Brain Health and Healthy Aging community forum Friday at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in southeast D.C.

The free event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will provide persons age 50 and older and caregivers with information about cognitive health, advance care planning and immunizations.

“The Balm In Gilead is excited to bring this very important initiative to the southeast area of the District of Columbia,” said Pernessa Seele, Gilead founder and CEO. “It is so critical that we educate our community about healthy aging, getting vaccinated and living healthier lives.”

The forum, which specifically targets people 65 and older, aims to ensure these individuals have access to information about important vaccinations such as the one for pneumococcal pneumonia, a potentially life-threatening disease which less than half of African-Americans ages 65 and older are vaccinated against.

“Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church is proud to partner with the Balm In Gilead on this initiative,” said the Rev. Dr. Kendrick Curry, pastor of Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church. “Seniors and their caretakers need to be informed on the resources available to them to help them live a healthier lifestyle.”
