(DigitalSpy.com) — After many a false start, smartwatches are finally becoming a thing this year. First, the long-awaited Apple Watch garnered much media attention and now this week’s Google I/O event has heralded a host of upgrades to its long-standing Android Wear operating system aimed pointedly in Apple‘s direction. “No need to tap or shake your wrist to wake up your display,” indeed.

Yet while the Apple Watch is being positioned as the smartwatch du jour, there are many reasons why it might not be right for you – not least that owning an iPhone is a pre-requisite. So if you’re thinking of making a tentative step into non-Apple smartwatch waters, raise your hand, look at your wrist and see which of these connected time-tellers you can imagine on there.
