Biden Gets 2nd Dose of Coronavirus Vaccine

President-elect Joseph R. Biden received a second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine at a Delaware hospital Monday.

Biden received his shot in front of a gaggle of reporters, as he did for the first dose three weeks ago.

The 78-year-old Biden’s age puts him at higher risk of severe symptoms should he become infected with COVID-19, the potentially deadly respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Biden got the shot as health officials nationwide attempt to speed up the vaccination process. As of Monday, more than 25 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been distributed in the U.S., but only about 9 million people have been vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires two doses, 21 days apart.
