White House hopeful Joe Biden, whose campaign had floundered recently amid Bernie Sanders’ ascent to the head of the Democratic pack, heads into the all-important Super Tuesday with newfound momentum after a crucial win Saturday in the South Carolina primary and subsequent key endorsements from former rivals.
Fourteen states, including Texas and California, as well as the territory of American Samoa are voting Tuesday for the Democratic presidential nominee.
Biden was backed Monday during a rally in Texas by Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, all whom were once competing against Biden for the nomination.
Klobuchar dropped out of the race earlier Monday, one day after Buttigieg did the same. Billionaire Tom Steyer also suspended his campaign Saturday.
The once-unwieldy field of Democratic candidates has now been winnowed down to Biden, Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg.
