Biden Spox Jen Psaki Tests Positive for COVID-19

White House press secretary Jen Psaki says she has tested positive for COVID-19.

Psaki said in a statement Sunday she decided not to join President Biden for his trip overseas for the Group of 20 summit after learning that family members had come down with the potentially deadly respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.

“On Wednesday, in coordination with senior leadership at the White House and the medical team, I made the decision not to travel on the foreign trip with the president due to a family emergency, which was members of my household testing positive for COVID-19,” Psaki said. “Since then, I have quarantined and tested negative (via PCR) for COVID on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, today, I tested positive for COVID.”

Psaki, who is vaccinated, said she hasn’t been in proximity to Biden or senior White House staff since Wednesday, adding that her symptoms are mild and that she will work remotely for the 10-day quarantining period following a negative rapid test as part of White House protocol.

Psaki said she disclosed the positive test “out of an abundance of transparency.”

The president tested negative Sunday, White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday morning.
