President Joe Biden is expected to announce this week that all federal employees and contractors must get a coronavirus vaccination or be required to submit to routine testing and mitigation measures.
Biden is expected on Thursday to talk about new efforts, including providing incentives, to curtail the spread of the delta variant that is largely responsible for the increase in coronavirus cases and positivity rates, CNN reported, citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter.
The source said Biden won’t impose the vaccination requirement on the military for now but will likely guide the Department of Defense on the issue in the future.
Biden has blamed unvaccinated Americans for the difficulty in ending the pandemic in the U.S.
“If those other hundred million people got vaccinated, we’d be in a very different world,” he said Tuesday.
The expected decision follows the Department of Veterans Affairs announcing that it will require its front-line health care workers to be vaccinated within the next two months.
