While the coronavirus pandemic wreaks havoc globally, the world’s billionaires have never been richer.
Billionaire wealth grew to $10.2 trillion at the end of July, up from a peak of $8.9 trillion in 2017, according to Swiss bank UBS and PwC, CNN reported. The total number of billionaires has increased by 31 to 2,189 since 2017.
Innovative billionaires in the fields of technology, health care and industry are making money along with entrepreneurs in areas such as entertainment, financial services and real estate, the bank said, CNN reported.
As of Wednesday, roughly 36 million coronavirus cases and over one million related deaths have been reported worldwide, with the U.S. leading globally with 7.5 million cases and 211,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
