The Bowie Police Department celebrated its 20th anniversary at its headquarters Saturday, with chiefs past and present speaking in honor of the organization they have developed.

“We could not have achieved these accomplishments without our community, the true foundation of our agency,” said Chief Dwayne Preston, the first African American chief of the BPD. “Your continued support, trust, and collaboration empower us in our daily responsibilities.”
The anniversary included a tour of the police substation, displays of police vehicles, and food giveaways.
Darrell Carrington, a longtime Bowie resident who operates the Huntington City Community Development Corporation, plans several community partnerships with the Bowie Police Department every year, including a trunk-or-treat event.
“We are proud of the partnership that we have forged with the BPD,” Carrington told The Informer. “They have shown time and time again their commitment and care for the community, in terms of what is best for our citizenry, as we work in partnership to address the issues that Bowie residents have raised to them.”
