D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has nominated Brian Kenner, her former deputy mayor for planning and economic development, to fill a vacancy on the Events DC board of directors.

Bowser advanced legislation late last month to appoint Kenner, who left District government in the summer for a similar post with Amazon.com, after a four-and-a-half-year tenure in her administration.

If the D.C. Council approves Kenner, he would serve a four-year term on the sports and convention authorityโ€™s board ending in 2023.

Kenner wrote in a resume attached to the nominating legislation that his current work with Amazon involves โ€œsupporting investment and expansions in VA, Washington, D.C. and MD.โ€

He is also responsible for working with โ€œregional economic development and workforce development organizations on policies and programs that support economic diversity in the region.โ€
