D.C. residents 12 and older who get their first coronavirus shot at certain sites in the city will receive a $51 Visa gift card.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, who made the announcement Thursday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Eastern Market Metro Plaza Park, said the gift cards will be distributed from Saturday to July 17 for eligible city residents who get vaccinated at select locations.

Additionally, the mayor announced residents who get immunized at Anacostia High School on Saturday will be entered in a contest for two roundtrip American Airlines tickets to anywhere the airline flies, domestic or international.

The gift cards are an incentive by the Bowser administration to get as many District residents as possible inoculated. The mayor has called on volunteers to help eligible residents to get vaccinated on Saturday as a part of the third DC COVID Community Corps Day of Action.

The gift card giveaway will begin Saturday at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center and Anacostia High School in Ward 8 and Ron Brown High School in Ward 7.
