D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser recounts the progress her administration has made over the past year, which includes several initiatives from the shuttering of the timeworn D.C. General homeless shelter to the opening of the St. Elizabeths East Entertainment and Sports Arena.
“We made good on some of our biggest commitments and continued advancing our D.C. values,” Bowser said in a statement issued Thursday.
Bowser cited the accomplishments that occurred on her watch, including:
• continued investments in affordable housing, including breaking ground on 202 units of high-quality affordable housing adjacent to the new Entertainment and Sports Arena.
• launched one of the largest municipal on-site solar projects in the country.
• cut the ribbon on Audi Field, the new home of D.C. United, and cheered the team on to the playoffs.
• welcomed families to Plaza West, D.C.’s first-ever affordable housing community specifically created to serve grandparents raising their grandchildren.
• continued driving down homelessness and opened new short-term family housing programs in Wards 4, 7 and 8.
• hosted the District’s first-ever Maternal and Infant Health Summit.
• created a $1.5 million Inclusive Innovation Fund to support underrepresented entrepreneurs including people of color, women, LGBTQ residents and individuals with disabilities.
• celebrated a Stanley Cup victory with thousands of Capitals fans from across the region.
• expanded access to early childcare with a $12.5 million investment that supports the creation of new childcare seats and creates a tax credit for families enrolled in licensed D.C. childcare facilities.
• provided $900,000 to community-based organizations that offer legal services for immigrants in Washington, D.C., through the Immigrant Justice Legal Services grant program.
