British PM Brings in New Year in Mustique

Newly elected British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds celebrated the beginning of the new year in Mustique, a small private island that is part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The couple celebrated the prime minister’s “dominant election win at the Oceanus, a Moroccan-style house nestled on the hilltops of Mustique,” according to The Sun, a British newspaper.

En route to Mustique, which is described as a favorite of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and where singer Mick Jagger has a home, the prime minister stopped off in Saint Lucia and met with Saint Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, current chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

In welcoming the prime minister during his “short layover” in Saint Lucia, Chastanet was quoted as saying, “I thanked the PM for his country’s continued support to our country and the region and of course took the opportunity to once again offer my heartiest congratulations on his hard-won and well-deserved victory in the recent election. We look forward to working more closely together on our countries’ shared mutual interests.”

According to published reports, at the luxury villa where they brought in the New Year, the British prime minister and his girlfriend had “a pick of three swimming pools, six bedrooms and stunning views in every direction at the £20,000-a-week hideaway.”
