Now that the school year has ended, the Capital Area Food Bank has kicked off its annual summer meals program to provide free meals for children across D.C., suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Operating through the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the food bank’s summer meals program delivers healthy, kid-friendly meals to apartment buildings, public recreation centers, places of worship, and other locations across the region. During 2025, our summer meal sites served more than 62,000 meals and snacks, and we hope to provide even more this year.
When schools are out of session, children can lose access to a critical source of nutritious meals. Our summer meals sites help fill that gap, ensuring that children can access the food they need to continue learning, playing and growing.
To help families locate these summer meals sites in their neighborhoods, the food bank has two interactive webpages: KidsMealsDMV.org and ComidasParaNinos.org. The webpages each feature an interactive map showing when and where kids can get free meals this summer.
Meal sites started operating on or after June 15th. The days and hours of operation will vary across summer meal sites. Check the interactive map for details on the location, days and times when a particular site will be providing meals.
The Capital Area Food Bank’s summer meals campaign is sponsored by Harris Teeter, with additional support and partnership from Clear Channel Outdoor, The Washington Informer, and Orange Barrel Media.
Meals will be provided free to eligible children, 18 years of age and younger, and are available without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. A foster child and children who are members of households receiving SNAP or TCA benefits are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits at eligible program sites.
