Alexander K. Austin

When I talk with business owners, I hear two stories at the same time.

The economic indicators tell us that business activity continues. But owners are navigating rising costs, workforce challenges, access to capital, changing technology, and uncertainty about what comes next.

That disconnect matters.

I believe this is a moment when owners have to look beyond revenue. Growth alone does not necessarily mean a business is getting stronger.

The better questions are: Are your margins improving? Is your cash flow healthy? Can the business operate without depending entirely on you? Are you investing in technology and people? And most importantly, are you building something of lasting value?

Economic cycles will change. Interest rates will change. Technology will change.

Strong businesses prepare for those changes before they arrive.

From the owner’s lens, the state of business isn’t simply about today’s economy. It’s about whether we are building companies capable of succeeding in tomorrow’s.
