R&B/funk music fans of the legendary Charlie Wilson have another reason to celebrate and it comes, appropriately, just a few weeks before the annual day for lovers, Valentine’s Day.
Wilson has teamed up with another musical superstar, Bruno Mars, for the new single, “Forever Valentine,” a pulsating tune about the joys of romance – a collaboration which Uncle Charlie describes as “magic.”
iHeartMedia dropped the world premiere of “Forever Valentine” Friday, Jan. 17 on its urban AC radio stations nationwide with the track playing at the top of every hour from 10:00 a.m. 11:00 p.m. local time. Released through P Music Group and distributed by BMG, “Forever Valentine” also become available at all major DSP’s on the same day.
Wilson says that while it took some doing to coordinate his hectic life with Mars’ equally-busy schedule, he’s thoroughly satisfied with the result.
“We talked about the song’s vibe for a while, put a chorus down and then didn’t see each other for a while,” Wilson said. “Then we ended up on the road together [at London’s Hyde Park Festival in 2018 and later, on the final leg of Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour].
“We’d sing every day at lunch time as we further hashed out the song. I’ve been having so much fun with this record.”
Mars co-produced “Forever Valentine” with Grammy-winning production team The Stereotypes (co-writers/co-producers of Mars’ Grammy-winning song of the year “That’s What I Like”) and D’Mile. The three parties also co-wrote the song with Wilson, Micah Powell and Seth Reger. Ratcheting up the track’s fun quotient are backing vocals by Mars, Wilson and James Fauntleroy, among others.
Still one of the hottest tickets on the tour circuit, Wilson will fulfill the dreams for fans flirting with love on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles before moving on to select U.S. cities for a tour which ends at the Sol Fest Los Cabos in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (April 27).
