Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has lauded the nation’s teachers while praising them for their commitment to the country’s youth.
Chastanet’s comments came after he visited the Soufriere-Fond St Jacques constituency on Saturday, Jan. 9, to view the progress of ongoing projects. One of the projects is the block of the Les Etangs Combined School which workers have completed.
Chastanet wrote Sunday on his official Facebook page that the improvements impressed him and he recalled that he spoke to a few of the teachers. According to the prime minister, they were busy preparing for the reopening of schools.
“Their commitment to our nation’s youth is extremely admirable,” Chastanet said. “And we remain forever grateful to them and all teachers across Saint Lucia for their continued dedication.”
Schools in Saint Lucia were scheduled to reopen on Monday, Jan. 11, despite lingering concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
On Saturday (Jan. 9) the Ministry of Health and Wellness announced 43 new cases of the virus, the highest number of cases officials have ever announced.
As a result, the total number of cases diagnosed in country up to that time was 438.
