D.C.'s Children's National Medical Center is ranked among the nation's top hospitals.

Children’s National Hospital has 23 patients suffering from an inflammatory illness related to the novel coronavirus, the hospital told WTOP.

Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome inflames the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC said symptoms may vary among children and a physician should be contacted immediately if a child exhibits fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, neck pain, rash, bloodshot eyes and excessive tiredness.

The death of a Baltimore County teen earlier this month from complications of coronavirus has also been linked to the syndrome.

Researchers are still attempting to determine a cause and treatment, WTOP reported Thursday.
