As we gather with family and friends this Christmas season, our hearts are full of gratitude โ€” for life, love, community, and the shared journey we undertake together.

At The Washington Informer, we give thanks to our loyal readers whose trust energizes every edition, and to our dedicated team whose tireless efforts keep the truth alive in every headline and story.

This year, we also remember and honor our late colleague, veteran journalist James J. Wright โ€” a voice of integrity, courage, and compassion. Jamesโ€™ commitment to truth and to the Black community exemplifies the highest calling of the Black Press: to inform, uplift, and hold accountable. His legacy will live on in every word we publish.

During this season of peace and hope, we recall the words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from his final Christmas sermon in 1967, when he preached that โ€œIf we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectionalโ€ฆ our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation.โ€

Kingโ€™s call for a broader, more profound commitment to justice and unity echoes the mission of the Black Press โ€” to shine light where there is darkness, to connect hearts where there is division, and to insist that our shared humanity is more powerful than the forces that seek to divide us.

This Christmas, as we celebrate with loved ones and reflect on the past year, we give thanks for the resilience of our community and the strength of a free and vigilant Black Press.

We will continue to stand firm in our role, telling the stories that matter, amplifying voices that too often go unheard, and working toward a future built on justice, peace, and goodwill for everyone.

Happy holidays to all!
