CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has apologized amid backlash from his comparison of fake news with the N-word.

During an interview Thursday on SiriusXM, Cuomo took umbrage with President Trumpโ€™s frequent use of the term โ€œfake news,โ€ telling radio host and CNN colleague Michael Smerconish that labeling journalists as such is the equivalent of using the N-word or slurs for other ethnicities.

โ€œIt is an ugly insult and you better be right if youโ€™re going to charge a journalist with lying on purpose and the president was not right here and he has not been right in the past,โ€ Cuomo said.

Cuomo later said that he was wrong.

โ€œCalling a journalist fake โ€” nothing compared to the pain of a racial slur. I should not have said it. I apologize,โ€ Cuomo tweeted.
