A motivational speaker based in Riverdale, Md., and the organization she founded have been awarded the Maryland Governorโ€™s Citation for her significant impact on both the community and the state economy.

Margaret Dureke and WETATi were honored in late October during National Womenโ€™s Small Business Month, which recognizes the contributions and successes of women in small businesses.

WETATi, an acronym for โ€œWeโ€™re Empowered to Achieve The Impossible,โ€ is an educational and economic empowerment network organization.

The organization, located at the Nyumburu Cultural Center at the University of Maryland in College Park, also promotes creative thinking, leadership and entrepreneurship.

WETATiโ€™s target market includes youth, millennials, and women of African-American, African and Hispanic descent, as well as veterans and other underrepresented groups.
