Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be commemorated on Jan. 21, and while many will be off from work or school in honor of the slain civil rights leader, they may also want to consider volunteering.

Several community-based volunteer opportunities — from serving meals to the elderly to interpreting critical health information to new immigrants — will shed light on the life and legacy of King.

A list of service projects can be found at nationalservice.gov.
