Coronavirus-related hospitalizations in Virginia have hit their highest level in nearly six weeks.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association said Thursday that roughly 1,100 people statewide are currently hospitalized with the virus, the most since early September, InsideNoVa reported.

The state health department reported 1,332 new cases Thursday, with 357 in Northern Virginia, InsideNoVa reported. The department also reported 39 new coronavirus-related deaths over Wednesday and Thursday combined, five of which were in Northern Virginia.

As of Friday, Virginia has reported 171,284 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, including 3,539 deaths, according to a health department tracker.
