D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the MLK Gateway renovation project at the intersection of Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Southeast.

Upon completion of the historic retail buildings, the project will bring office, retail, and other neighborhood amenities to Ward 8.

Phase One of the project includes renovation of the historic retail buildings at 1201-1215 Good Hope Road SE and the addition of a two-story office above the retail.

The project, financed with a combination of $4.25 million from the New Market Tax Credit program and $3.3 million in Opportunity Zone equity, also received a $700,000 grant from the D.C. government’s Neighborhood Prosperity Fund.
