The Entertainment and Sports Arena in D.C.’s Ward 8 — home of the Washington Mystics — was one of two new mass vaccination sites opened in D.C. over the weekend.

Georgetown University medical and nursing students manned the 13 vaccination cubicles at the arena, administering 750 doses daily, WUSA-TV (Channel 9) reported. The vaccination unit deputy said approximately 100 people volunteered throughout the day.

The other site to open over the weekend was at the Providence Health System in Northeast. The two sites, along with one at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Northwest, administer the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The site is appointment-only, with reservations made through the District’s online vaccine portal.

As of Monday, Ward 8 has 196 coronavirus-related deaths, the most of any ward the city.

D.C. has administered more than 231,000 vaccine doses as of Monday, with 6.8% of the city population now fully vaccinated.
