The D.C.-based Mamie Johnson Little League team has become the first all-Black team to win the championship in the leagueโ€™s 31-year history.

The youth baseball team advanced to the regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut, by defeating the Capitol Hill Little League 14-7 this week in the title game.

The team, which is only the second Black group to compete in the championship game, was created in 2015 and named after Mamie โ€œPeanutโ€ Johnson, a D.C. resident who was the first female pitcher in the Negro Leagues.
